Christina's World

Christina Gkiza
Christina Gkiza is a self-taught contemporary visual artist based in Athens, Greece. Born in 1988, she began painting in 2013 during her stay in Wales. Since then, her practice has evolved through a continuous exploration of the urban environment, its structures, textures, and the layered narratives embedded within it. Working across painting and digital collage, she develops mixed media artworks that combine acrylics, ink, paper, fabrics, photography and typography.

Her work explores the urban environment through mixed media, creating layered visual narratives inspired by everyday impressions and travel experiences. Drawing from the dynamic and ephemeral nature of the city, she focuses on overlooked details, surfaces and materials that reveal hidden meanings within the ordinary.

Christina has always been drawn to the raw aesthetic of urban spaces — from dust-encrusted objects to paint-chipped walls — transforming visual stimuli into compositions that function as meditative spaces. Her works reflect a deep engagement with contemporary urban life, where personal experience intersects with collective imagery.

Her compositions are characterised by a dynamic interplay of colour, texture and form, where typography, circular motifs and abstract elements emerge as recurring visual languages. Through the layering of physical and digital materials, she constructs fragmented yet cohesive visual fields that invite close observation.

Guided by the belief that beauty exists everywhere, her practice is both intuitive and organic, leading to a visual language that is expressive, authentic and contemporary.
